Sample Itinerary (8 Day Tour)

 

San José, Arenal, Guanacaste

Day 1: Travel Day

Flight to San Jose Costa Rica.  

 

           Overnight in San José. (D). Country Inn and Suites

 

Day 2:

After breakfast, we will begin our transfer from San Jose to the Arenal.  While on the way, we will visit the famous Poás Volcano. Poás is one of Costa Rica´s most active volcanoes and one of its most frequently visited.  The view as you look down upon the Crater Lake will prove to be simply captivating! We will make some short stops along the way to purchase Costa Rican coffee, enjoy organic smoothies and stretch while looking at the most amazing landscapes. 

 

Upon arrival in the Arenal region, we will visit a sustainable farm “Finca Don Juan,” for a tour to discover a variety of local crops and to learn about sustainable agriculture for a better environment. The tour will educate and entertain you at the same time! This 7 acre farm has it all and is a must see while in Costa Rica.  Lunch, consisting of the farm’s organically grown/produced food will be served on a stunning deck overlooking a river bed.  The sounds of the rainforest will surround you as you enjoy your meal.

 

Prepare yourselves for a true rainforest experience as we make our way up to the world famous, “Arenal Observatory Lodge.  The lodge is perched high on a ridge only 1.7 miles from Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica's most spectacular volcano.  The lodge offers the area's most stunning views of the volcano and Arenal Lake.  Visit The Observatory Lodge’s facebook page for updates on the incredible wildlife seen around the grounds.

Day 3:

This day will be packed full of nature, adventure and lots of fun!  Your morning will begin as you wake to the sounds of the rainforest.  Howler Monkeys, a variety of birds and other wildlife will let you know that you are within one of the most biodiverse regions on the globe!  Enjoy a tranquil breakfast on the raised deck overlooking Arenal Lake before switching gears into an action packed adventure as we spend some time observing the rainforests rafting on the “Rio Balsa!

We will wind down for the day at Baldi Hot Springs.  This expansive hot springs facility is a true paradise. The facility gets its energy from Arenal Volcano which has an unavoidable presence while in this part of the country.   It is located at the base of the Arenal Volcano in the town of La Fortuna.  This is the perfect get away that offers 25 thermo mineral hot water pools flowing naturally from the base of the volcano. These pools range in temperatures from 93-152 ºF.  If relaxation is on your “to do” list while on this eco-adventure, this is the place for you! This is a perfect ending to a full day of adventure and education.

Day 4:

Be sure to get up early this morning to take a hike, enjoy the nature surrounding the lodge and perhaps take a walk to a nearby waterfall.  The extensive network of trails around the lodge allow for tremendous opportunities to view wildlife.  Whether its birds, butterflies, trees, monkeys or rich vegetation you wish to see...you will find it here at the Observatory Lodge!  “The early bird catches the worm!”   Following breakfast, we will begin our transfer to the Pacific Coast where yet a new paradise awaits us.  We will take some brief stops along the way to enjoy the Costa Rican Culture and to take pictures. 

 

Upon reaching the Pacific Coast in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, you will experience what is meant by “Pura Vida,” (the pure life) amidst a catamaran.  This boat tour will quickly allow you to escape reality and slip into tranquility as you witness dolphins, birds and other wildlife within this marine habitat.  Witness the most enchanting landscapes of Costa Rica while on the water.  The catamaran is equipped with snorkeling gear for those who wish to see wildlife below the surface of the Ocean.  The reefs in this area of Costa Rica are rich with a variety of marine fish.  As the sunset draws near, we may wish to experience a taste of some “night life” as music, dancing and cocktails aboard the catamaran are also available.  As the night approaches, we will head to our hotel where yet another adventure awaits us.  Prepare yourselves for a fine touch of Costa Rica- Flamingo Beach Resort and Spa.  Once you have experienced a Pacific Ocean view from the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa, you may never want to leave.

Day 5:

After a breakfast, our group will participate in a morning community service project.  Our projects are designed to help the local families, schools, communities or churches as some regions of Costa Rica have been drastically affected by financial hardships.  These projects have proven to be the highlight of the trip with great enthusiasm of helping those who are less fortunate.  Our afternoon will be free to either relax at our “all inclusive” beach front hotel or to take an excursion. Allow Eco Outreach International to assist with your excursion planning or the staff at Flamingo Beach Resort will gladly help with the booking of a variety of activities available in close proximity to the resort.  Activities include:

Day 7:

The morning will be free for taking in the Pacific sights for the last time.  After lunch we will transfer from Guanacaste back to San José. We will make several stops along the way to gather souvenirs, see some Costa Rican Landmarks and to enjoy the landscapes for the last time.  While on our journey, we will be passing over one of the biggest tourist attractions in Costa Rica, the famous Tarcoles River.  This is home to one of the world’s largest crocodile population with about 25 crocodiles living per square kilometer.  We will be stopping to get some great photos of these river monsters.

Day 8:

Our group will enjoy breakfast together for the final morning. Following breakfast, we will departfor the San Jose Airport.
